Prior to implementing Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) regulations in North America, a US refinery was equipped with two middle distillate hydrotreaters: a 34,000 bpsd Low Sulfur Diesel (LSD) unit and a 7,000 bpsd kerosene HDT unit. Distillates from cracked feedstocks were also available but mainly routed to High Sulfur Fuel Oil (HSFO) blending.
